One of the biggest, the brightest, the craziest and (…fill in the blank) music and cultural festivals in Europe attracted record number of visitors this year, turning an average August week in Budapest to a colorful, exciting and jaw-dropping 24/7 blast.
Rockers and hipsters, grandmas and teens, black and white were “one for all, all for one” amongst the 415 000 visitors filling the 108-hectare island on the river Danube. With a recent facelift, Sziget offered an abundant variety of programs and activities for the festival citizens putting up their nest tent for a week-long party as well as for the daily visitors who were also eager to get a slice of the cake. A long list of upcoming entertainers and A-listers such as The Prodigy, Placebo, Outkast, Calvin Harris were just a few amongst the greatest performers rocking the island and music lovers’ heart in the evenings, while gourmet stalls and bars, ability park, “Sziget-passport controlled” old-school fun-fair, the Islamic style deservedly popular Luminarium, a wedding tent and many more brought chill to the Sziget goers’ everydays.
Undoubtedly this was THE festival of the year, come and check out some quick snaps showing a piece of life on the island:
